US: ‘QAnon shaman’ of Capitol invasion released from prison

Transferred from federal prison to reintegration center is Jacob Chansley, the “QAnon shaman” during the January 6, 2021 Capitol invasion, who caused a sensation with his cape.

“Having served eleven months in solitary confinement prior to sentencing and only 16 months after sentencing, it is only fitting that this kind and intelligent young man be admitted to the next stage, which will undoubtedly be a law-abiding and enriched life,” his spokesman said.

Bureau of Prison records confirmed that Chansley was under surveillance by the Homecoming Office in Phoenix with a release date of May 25.

It was not immediately clear what led to his early release, and his lawyer declined to comment, stating: “It was a decision by the US Bureau of Prisons. I cannot speak for the US Bureau of Prisons.”

Federal regulations allow a reduced prison sentence for good behavior, but under those regulations, Jacob Chansley had to serve at least 35 months and 22 days of his 41-month sentence.

The attraction of the “black” invasion

Chansley, who was in the spotlight for his attire, which included a headdress with large horns, appeared in court in a dark green prison uniform, with a beard and a shaved head.

While incarcerated, Chansley was diagnosed with transient schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety by prison officials. When he agreed to plead guilty, he said he was disappointed that Trump did not pardon him.

On 6 January, four people were killed in violent incidents. The police officer attacked by the protesters died the next day, and four of his colleagues later committed suicide. About 140 police officers were injured.

Chansley’s lawyer Albert Watkins commented that in 2006, the Navy diagnosed his client with a personality disorder but deemed him “fit” for service.
