“After the president appointed Vitaly Khotenko to the Omsk Region and, accordingly, Vitaly Pavlovich [HoČ›enko] was dismissed from the post of prime minister of the DPR government, the government officially resigned,” said the leader of the Donetsk separatists, Denys Pusilin.

He said the resignation was only administrative in nature and that the government would continue in office until a new cabinet was appointed.

Vladimir Putin appointed Khotsenko acting governor of the Omsk region in southern Siberia on Thursday after the previous governor, Oleksandr Burkov, resigned.

Born in 1986 in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, Khotsenko studied in Moscow, settled in Russia after the collapse of the USSR and held several positions in the Russian state apparatus in the last decade.

Together with Dmytro Rogozin, the head of the Donetsk government was wounded

Khotenko has served as prime minister of the so-called “Donetsk People’s Republic” since last June, after being elected to the post by a legislative assembly created by pro-Russian separatists with the support of Moscow.

He was wounded during a Ukrainian attack in December last year, targeting former Russian Deputy Prime Minister and head of Roscosmos Dmytro Rogozin during his visit to Donetsk. Two more Russian officials are believed to have died in the attack.

Rogozin appears to have kept his public appearances in Russia to a minimum since the attack, although he did post a photo from his hospital bed after undergoing surgery, declaring Russia’s final “final victory” in Putin’s war.

Rogozin, who was replaced by Vladimir Putin as head of Roscosmos in mid-July, was injured on the night of December 21 as a result of an explosion at the Shesh-Besh restaurant in Donetsk, where he was celebrating his birthday.
