The father of the student who created the anti-war cartoon may have been arrested
Aleksey Moskalev, resident of the city of Efremov, Tula region, father of a 13-year-old student who drew an anti-war cartoon, was arrested in Minsk, online publications Mediazona and Sota reported on Thursday, March 31. According to an unnamed Sota interlocutor, Moskalev’s whereabouts were ascertained due to the inclusion of a mobile phone in the apartment.
At the same time, the man’s lawyer, Dmitry Zakhvatov, said that he currently has no connection with the client, as Moskalev’s phone is turned off. “Confirm (detention. – Ed.) I can’t exactly, but according to indirect data, apparently everything is so,” the lawyer wrote on the Telegram channel.
In Russia, Moskalev was sentenced to two years in a penal colony in the case of repeated “disrepute” of the Russian army. According to Justice, the man escaped from house arrest.

In April 2022, at school No. 9 in the city of Yefremov, sixth graders were given an assignment in a fine arts class: to make drawings in support of Russian troops in Ukraine. Masha Moskaleva depicted two flags – the Russian Federation and Ukraine; on the first she wrote “No to war”, on the second – “Glory to Ukraine”. Then the principal called the police, the girl and her father were taken to the police station, Federal Security officials came to the school to “talk” with the student.
Subsequently, an administrative protocol was drawn up against Alexei Moskalev under the article on “discrediting” the Russian army, citing his anti-war comments on social networks. At the end of 2022, a search was carried out in Moskalev’s apartment. A criminal case was opened against the man for repeated “disrepute” of the RF Armed Forces.
After that, the Russian authorities placed Moskalev’s daughter in an orphanage. Andrey Morev, vice chairman of the Moscow branch of the Yabloko party, launched a petition in early March demanding that the girl be returned home.
