Russia is reducing the intensity of its attacks in the south of Ukraine, Ukrainian forces are destroying a significant part of their warehouses and ammunition stocks in this area, the spokeswoman of the Southern Ukrainian Operational Command Nataliya Humenyuk said on Tuesday, EFE and Agerpres reported. .
“There have been no Russian bombings in the area of the Dnieper-Buzka estuary for three days,” she said, referring to the area where the two rivers flow into the Black Sea, about 70 kilometers west of the city of Kherson. .
Humeniuk explained this by the inability of Russian troops to replenish ammunition after the destruction of their warehouses. According to the spokeswoman of the army, the Russian military also cannot “drop additional weapons and equipment, including mortars”, because the Ukrainian units “managed to destroy their positions”, and unfavorable weather conditions in the Black Sea “restrict their freedom of movement”.
The situation, Humenyuk said, “is the result of the actions of the security and defense forces,” which over the past few days would have managed to destroy important Russian infrastructure and positions “in the area of 20-30 kilometers on the left (eastern) bank of the Dnieper,” which remains occupied by Russia.
According to Ukrainian media, Russian troops also lost numerous artillery and rocket launcher systems in the area and were forced to withdraw from the banks of the Dnieper, as Ukrainian fire hit their positions in the immediate vicinity of the river.
Nataliya Gumenyuk’s comments came as Western analysts appear to believe that the Russian offensive on Bakhmut has also passed or is about to reach its peak, as the Russians attempt to attack the town of Avdiyivka to the south in Donetsk Oblast.
However, Humenyuk’s comments should be treated with some caution, since it was she who said two weeks ago that the Russian army was also preparing to withdraw from the eastern bank of the Dnieper, leaving the rest of the Kherson region.
As always, the information war is being waged on both sides of the conflict.
