The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said that he did not receive any offer from China to become a mediator between Ukraine and Russia.
In an interview with the Japanese newspaper Japan News, Zelenskyi said that he had given “direct messages” through diplomatic channels that he wanted to talk to Chinese leader Xi Jinping, but had not received a response.
“We did not receive an offer from China to mediate (in the conflict). We did not receive an offer to meet (with Xi Jinping),” Zelenskyy said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi also expressed skepticism about China’s 12-point plan for the “political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.” About this Chinese plan, which includes a ceasefire and peace talks, Zelenskyi says that it should first of all include “respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
This plan was supported by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
China still refuses to condemn Russia’s military aggression in Ukraine.
