Nearly all of the approximately 2.5 tons of enriched uranium ore (CUR) that were recently lost from storage in Libya was seen in this place, announced International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in a letter to the participating countries.
Last week, the armed forces that control eastern Libya announced that barrels of uranium had been found near the warehouse from which they were removed, in southern Libya. IAEA inspectors searched the site and found that, according to the agency’s confidential report to its members, only a “relatively small amount” of uranium was missing.
The IAEA also assures that there is no immediate risk of radiation leakage in the area and that it is working with Libya to improve its national nuclear material control system.
