Rodolphe Haar, a citizen of Chile and Haiti, pleaded guilty before a U.S. court to three charges brought against him for participating in Assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moisewho was killed in his home in July 2021.

Haar is one of 11 defendants in the case. Among them are businessmen who allegedly helped the attackers buy cars and weapons from Florida, as well as former soldiers from Colombia who shot Moises in his bedroom.

According to the US Department of Justice, Haar is accused of helping Colombians acquire weapons. The perpetrators lived in a house under his control, and he also helped them when they were hiding from the Haitian authorities. He was arrested in January 2022 in the Dominican Republic.

Haar, who faces a life sentence, will be sentenced on June 2 in Miami, according to court documents cited by Reuters.

Moise’s assassination left a political void in Haiti. Today, most of the country is controlled by powerful gangs, and clashes between them have triggered a humanitarian crisis that has displaced at least 160,000 civilians.
