Chernihiv Oblast, about the size of Belgium, located on Ukraine’s border with Russia and Moscow’s ally Belarus, was partially occupied by the Russian army in the first weeks of the Russian invasion, which began on February 24, 2022.
After the withdrawal of Russia from this territory in the spring of 2022, the Ukrainian army is closely monitoring any movement of Russian troops north of the territory of Ukraine, especially in Belarus.
However, the Ukrainian authorities believe that a new Russian attack from the north is unlikely.
