Chancellor of Germany Olaf Soltz welcomed today the decision of the International Criminal Court on issue an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin saying that it shows that “no one is above the law”.
Yesterday Friday, the ICC issued arrest warrants for two people in connection with the situation in Ukraine: for Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and Maria Alekseevna Lvova-Belova, Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights in Russia, he said in a statement.
Putin “is held accountable for the war crime of illegal deportation of the population (children) and illegal transfer of the population (children) from the occupied territories of Ukraine to the Russian Federation,” the court added.
“The International Criminal Court is the right institution to investigate war crimes… The fact is that no one is above the law, and this is now becoming clear,” commented Scholz from Tokyo at a joint press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
