In a new video shared on the social networks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, it can be seen how they managed to destroy 3 BM-27 “Uragan” multiple rocket launchers with one strike against the Russian army.

The shelling took place near the village of Novonykanorivka, Luhansk region, where the Russians tried to hide rocket launchers in a forest strip.

The footage shows how the first hit immediately led to the “ignition” of one of the missiles of the launcher and shortly after that the spectacular explosion of other munitions on board. Then the footage shows the second launcher burning, but not the moment of its impact, but recorded when the third BM-27 Hurricane hits.

The administrators of the Ukraine Weapons Tracker page here use the alternative name of the launcher “Uragan 9P140”, but it is the same combat vehicle.

Although it’s not entirely clear, given the accuracy of the strikes, they may have been delivered by Excalibur GPS-guided projectiles, which the Ukrainian military began receiving in greater numbers starting last fall from some of its Western partners.

Last month, Ukrainian troops also managed to destroy the Tor M2DT air defense system, brought by the Russians to Ukraine from the Arctic and shown on the official television of the Russian army.

Because air defense systems also use missiles to destroy targets that fall within the perimeter of their defenses, they explode on impact just as effectively as rocket launchers, weapons designed for offensive strikes.

Russia has lost almost a quarter of its good Uragan launchers.

Oryx, a website known for documenting casualties suffered by both sides of the war in Ukraine, estimates that Russia has lost 49 Hurricane BM-27 systems since the invasion began in late February last year, almost a quarter of the number it had on active duty. service (200).

Of the 49 lost launchers, 6 were captured by Ukrainian troops.

Added to these are 37 9T452 loading vehicles, an auxiliary vehicle that is used in parallel with the launchers to arm them.

However, it should be noted that about 700 BM-27 Uragan launchers are still stored in long-term military storage in Russia.

Although it is not clear how many of these were recovered for delivery to the front, it is very likely that most of them were quickly put on their feet, given what other improvised equipment the Russian army sent to Ukraine.
