A popular social media application owned by the Chinese. tik tak a ban on access to the phones of ministers and civil servants in the UK is expected.
Cabinet spokesman Oliver Dowden is due to make a statement on the matter to MPs later in the day.
According to the BBC, there is no official position yet, but Dowden is expected to confirm the ban of the app on all devices, indicted by the officials mentioned above.
TikTok faces accusations that it shares its users’ data with the Chinese government, a claim the company vehemently denies.
The UK’s National Cybersecurity Center has already put the question of whether TikTok really should be blocked from government phones at the center of its investigations.
The US, Canada, Belgium and the European Commission have already made decisions to block TikTok on their officials’ devices.
It is noted that an earlier article in the Wall Street Journal spoke of the intention of the Biden administration to ban TikTok everywhere if the company’s Chinese shareholders do not proceed to sell their stake.
