On Thursday, the Kremlin said it regretted the Republic of Moldova’s “unjustified prejudices” against Moscow and that Russia remained open to good relations, Reuters and Agerpres reported.
“Russia has always been and remains open to establishing good-neighborly and mutually beneficial relations with (the Republic of) Moldova. We sincerely regret that the leadership of the Republic of Moldova shows unjustified and unfounded prejudices against Moscow,” Kremlin spokesman Dmytro Peskov said during a daily press conference on Thursday.
“It is probably infected with Russophobia,” he complained about the Republic of Moldova.
His comments came only a day after Yahoo News journalists presented details of a plan developed by Moscow before the start of the invasion of Ukraine, which is aimed at destabilizing the Republic of Moldova.
The document, obtained by Yahoo News reporters as part of an international investigation involving more than 10 websites and media outlets in Europe, was compiled by the US President’s Office of Border Cooperation, the same Kremlin agency that developed a similar strategy for Moscow’s plan to annex Belarus.
Russia’s plan for the Republic of Moldova
The plan for the Republic of Moldova drawn up in Moscow is divided into 3 separate categories: political, military and defense sectors; humanitarian sector; and the commercial and economic sector. Each section provides specific goals that the authors of the document would like to achieve in the short term (by 2022), medium term (by 2025) and long term (by 2030).
The Russian strategy involves not only interfering in the elections in Chisinau by supporting some actors, such as the fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor or former president Ihor Dodon, but also manipulating civil society and public opinion in the Republic of Moldova by “neutralizing attempts to limit the activities of Russian media and pro-Russian media in Moldova” and “creation of a network of non-governmental organizations that contribute to the development of Russian-Moldovan relations”.
Russia would like this system of public organizations to be active in all spheres of social and economic life, the document defines 2025 as the year of its creation.
Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recan, who took office last month, confirmed after investigative journalists showed him the document in his office in Chisinau last week that it reflected what he and many liberals in the government suspected or knew.
“For years, I did not pay attention to Russian propaganda and Russian TV presenters, who were always present here. And when we started contacting them, the propaganda moved to Telegram, Facebook, VKontakte, and TikTok. There is nothing we can do about Telegram and TikTok except cut the cord. After 30 years of propaganda, we are seeing the consequences now,” he said of some of the goals outlined in the document.
“When people are afraid, they say: ‘ok, the Russian bear is too big for us.’ Maybe he and I will somehow come to an agreement and come to an agreement, and he won’t touch us.” I would be very happy for the people of Moldova to see this document,” said the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.
Chisinau claims that this thwarted Moscow’s destabilization attempt
The police of the Republic of Moldova announced on the morning of March 12 that they succeeded in foiling a plan to destabilize the situation in the country, created by Russia after an agent infiltrated the mouth of pro-Russian saboteurs financed by a fugitive. oligarch Ilana Shor, ten arrested persons.
Chisinau police announced the day before that they have information that at the next protest action against the government of President Mai Sandu, they intend to organize actions of mass destabilization and disorder.
“Our undercover agent, who infiltrated this group, came into direct contact with a person from the Russian Federation, who introduced herself under the pseudonym Mai Sandu, who directed the actions together with another person, both a citizen of the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation, but living in to the Russian Federation,” said Moldovan police chief Viorel Cherneutsyan.
This citizen, a native of the Russian Federation, who was supposed to provide training actions aimed at destabilizing public order, arrived in the Republic of Moldova in January, where he presented a different passport, changing his last name countless times,” he added. he clarified.
On February 13, President of Moldova Maia Sandu condemned Russia’s violent plan to undermine the Republic of Moldova and its pro-Western government.
Maia Sandu stated that the Russian plan of “subversive actions” on the territory of the Republic of Moldova is not new – there were attempts to destabilize the situation and undermine the state last fall, but they did not achieve their goal due to interference. protection of institutions and maintenance of public order.
