After five months on the International Space Station, four astronauts from NASA’s Crew 5 mission returned to Earth aboard the Dragon Endurance spacecraft that washed ashore in the Gulf of Mexico.
During their 157 days in space, Crew 5 “counted” 2,500 orbits around the Earth, completed five EVAs, and took part in over 100 scientific experiments and demonstrations. They grew protein crystals, tended space vegetables for long missions, talked to children and adults from around the world, and helped develop photovoltaic systems to power the orbiting laboratory.

Lifeboats were waiting for Crew 5, ready to tie down the capsule for the astronauts to land breathing fresh air after 160 days.

The Crew 6 mission, which launched a few days ago, has replaced Crew 5.
