Russia: Calls for 60-Day Extension of Ukrainian Grain Export Agreement

OUR Russia is in favor of extending the agreement on Ukrainian grain export in 60 daysand not 120 as it has been so far, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Vershinin said today, after Moscow’s talks with UN representatives in Geneva.

“The Russian side (…) is not against the further extension of the Black Sea Initiative after the end of its second term on March 18, but only for 60 days,” Verchinin said.

An initiative to export grain across the Black Sea reached between Russia and Ukrainian Brokered by the UN and Turkey last July, it aimed to avert a global food crisis by allowing Ukrainian grain, which was blocked in the country due to the Russian invasion, to be exported safely from three Ukrainian ports.

The agreement, which was extended by 120 days in November, expires on March 18.
