Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed Ramzan Kadyrov to the Kremlin on Monday, with the Chechen leader asking for permission to “brag a little,” according to a video of the meeting released by Russian media.

“How are things in the republic?” Putin asked Kadyrov, one of his most loyal associates.

“- Everything is very good in our republic. It’s thanks to you, don.

– This is thanks to the Chechen people,” continued the dialogue between the two, while Kadyrov was preparing a document to be read to Vladimir Putin.

“- If you allow me, I would like to brag a little.

“Please!” the two said to each other.

Then Ramzan Kadyrov listed several areas in which Chechnya would be a leader or have the best results among the republics that are part of Russia: road construction, education, environmental protection or housing construction.

The frankly propagandistic moment, like all of Putin’s meetings with Russian officials in the Kremlin, drew attention rather to one seemingly insignificant detail: the very large font used to print the text prepared for the meeting with Vladimir Putin.

This detail has caused some netizens to wonder about Kadyrov’s health, given that there have been rumors recently that he will have health problems.

Assumptions about the state of health of Ramzan Kadyrov

The rumors intensified after Kadyrov failed to attend Putin’s speech at the Moscow parliament on February 21, his absence drawing immediate attention because of the Chechen leader’s unconditional loyalty to the Russian president.

Putin later met with Kadyrov’s 17-year-old son Akhmat, an extremely rare move by a Russian president that sparked further speculation. However, it should be noted that the reason for the meeting in the Kremlin was that Kadyrov’s son was going to get married, and his reception by Putin could be a gesture of gratitude for his father’s loyalty.

Ahmad Zakayev, the exiled leader of the so-called Republic of Ikikeria, a self-proclaimed state entity of Chechens opposed to Kadyrov, said earlier this month that Kadyrov had serious kidney problems.

The German newspaper Bild also wrote that the head doctor of the nephrology department of the Burjeel Medical Center in the United Arab Emirates came to Russia to consult Kadyrov, believing that the Chechen leader does not trust Russian doctors.

However, in the case of this recording, the explanation could be much more trivial: Kadyrov has a vision problem and does not want to admit it in order to maintain his image as a “warrior” who participated in the frontline combat in Ukraine.
