
At least 22 people have died when a boat carrying migrants capsized off the coast of the African island nation of Madagascar, authorities said on Sunday evening.
According to authorities, 23 more people were rescued, the search for survivors continues.
According to the first information, the ship was heading to Mayotte, an offshore French possession, off the coast of southeast Africa, between Madagascar and the African continent.
Ships with migrants often depart from the northwestern coast of Madagascar.
In February, the Coast Guard stopped a boat carrying 33 citizens of the impoverished country as it tried to reach Mayotte.
