
A major rescue operation in Italy in which the Coast Guard seeks help from the Navy to save 1,000 people, according to La Repubblica.
The newspaper, citing a journalist from Radio Radicale, reports that three boats with more than a thousand people are arriving south of Calabria. The news was also confirmed by the Italian Coast Guard, according to Corriere della Sera.
Operations have been expedited due to forecast worsening weather conditions. Earlier it became known that Frontex raised the alarm about a dangerous vessel with 500 people on board. According to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, water begins to flow into the boat, on board of which there are many women and children.
