In an interview with the state Kossuth Radio Orban has been critical of the West and accused Ukraine’s allies of fueling the conflict over economic interests.

According to Orban, “the world has never been so close to turning a local war into a global war,” and added that the likelihood of this scenario “is growing day by day.”

The Hungarian prime minister said – without any evidence, as Politico comments – that Kyiv’s allies could send troops to help Ukraine.

“We are very close, in my opinion,” he added, “to be put on the table as a serious proposal for allies – soldiers of countries that are allies of Ukraine – to also cross the border.”

Orban, who has maintained a close relationship with the Kremlin over the past decade, has come under fire both at home and abroad in Hungary, accused of promoting a Russian narrative about the war in Ukraine.

However, in an interview he gave today, he insisted that others shared his position, referring to China, the Arab world and Africa. “There is the West,” he said, “(there are) others,” he said characteristically.
