Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children have also officially received the titles of Prince and Princess, according to the website of the British Royal Family.
The development came just a day after the couple first mentioned the title of Lilibet in the announcement of her baptism. “I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3rd by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, The Honorable John Taylor,” a spokesperson for the couple said.
Today, on the succession page, three-year-old Archie and one-year-old Lilibet are described as “prince” and “princess” and are ranked 6th and 7th in the line of succession. Previously, they were simply called “Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor” and “Miss Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor”.
The rules governing the titles of blue blood children were established by King George V – the grandfather of Queen Elizabeth II – in 1917. According to royal protocol, the grandchildren of the monarch can receive the titles of prince and princess of the princess.
Archie and the Lilliputians were entitled to these titles when King Charles came to the throne. A spokesman for Prince Harry and Meghan said: “Children are entitled to titles from the moment their grandfather became monarch.”
Meghan said in an interview two years ago that the British royal family refused to give her son a title and that a racist comment was made about how dark his skin could be.
Meghan and Harry’s youngest daughter’s baptism comes just days after King Charles evicted the couple from Elizabeth’s home in Britain, Frogmore Cottage. However, he invited them to his coronation ceremony, which is scheduled for early May.
It is currently unknown if they will be “present”.
