After Berlin on Wednesday, the Kremlin on Thursday cast doubt on the theory that a pro-Ukrainian group sabotaged the Nord Stream gas pipeline last September.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday afternoon that only a small number of civil service intelligence agencies are capable of such an attack.
“As for a certain pro-Ukrainian doctor Ivil, who allegedly organized this, it’s hard to believe, it was a very difficult task, which could only be handled by a well-trained state intelligence service, of which there are not so many. many in the world,” he said. A Kremlin spokesman, commenting on a series of reports in foreign media about the terrorist attack on the Nord Stream.
He drew attention to the “simultaneous publication in different countries” of media reports about who was allegedly behind this terrorist attack.
“You see that the Anglo-Saxons, whom we spoke about at the beginning, are excited. They are obviously very embarrassed because of this terrorist attack in relations with the Germans, this is obvious,” Peskov said.
He stressed that it is necessary to identify the perpetrators of this sabotage, “since this is a very dangerous precedent for committing a terrorist attack against the most important international energy infrastructure.”
“We continue to demand a prompt and transparent investigation. We still require admission to this survey. We believe that it should not be allowed to stop, to draw attention to some minor versions and cases – this should also not be allowed, ”the Kremlin spokesman said.
Mr. Peskov added that the version of Russia’s involvement in the attacks on the Nord Stream gas pipelines was initially absurd speculation, and its rejection indicates that “there are still grains of logic in the West.”
“Only a sick brain can think that Russia, as one of the main participants in this international project, can cut off its own leg. This is an absurd case,” the Kremlin spokesman said. He noted that now, “wherever it happens, Russia is primarily to blame – the same thing happened with Nord Stream, with this terrorist attack.”
