Seven people, including civilians, were killed today in a drone attack on a munitions factory controlled by pro-Iranian groups in the country’s east. SyriaThis is reported by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH).

The observatory, based in the UK but with a wide network of sources in Syria, was unable to determine who was responsible for the attack. Its head, Rami Abdel Rahman, said seven people were killed and 15 injured in attacks on a factory and a truck full of weapons. According to this source, three Afghans, members of a pro-Iranian organization, as well as four Syrians, three of whom were civilians, were killed.

Syrian state media did not mention the drone strike. However, the Syrian news agency Sana reported that “three civilians were killed and seven wounded” by a mine planted by the Islamic State while the city of Deir ez-Zor was under its control. He also posted photos of the building and the damaged truck.

According to the OSDH, the attack took place in the Syrian government-controlled sector of the city, where the residences of the local head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards, the Iranian ideological army and members of the Lebanese Hezbollah are located. The Deir ez-Zor area is a major transit point for militants, goods and weapons entering the country from neighboring Iraq. In January, 11 people were killed in the area as a result of successive airstrikes against pro-Iranian organizations. Two of them aimed at the convoy with weapons.
