The Chinese government could use this tik tak control the data of millions of American users, he said today FBI Director Christopher Wrayat a US Senate hearing, noting that the Chinese app raises security concerns.

Ray told members of the Senate Intelligence Committee at a hearing on US global security threats. USAthat the Chinese government could also use TikTok to control software on millions of devices and channel narratives to divide Americans over Taiwan or other issues.

“Yes, and I would like to point out the latter, in particular, that we were not sure that we would see many external signs of what happened if it happened,” the FBI director stressed about fears that China could feed users with disinformation.

“This is a tool that is ultimately under the control of the Chinese government, and in my opinion, it is associated with national security issues,” he said.

OUR White House backed legislation filed Tuesday by a dozen senators to give President Joe Biden’s administration new powers to ban TikTok and other foreign technology if they pose a national security risk. The approval supported efforts by some lawmakers to ban the popular app, owned by Chinese company ByteDance and used by more than 100 million Americans.

Other senior US intelligence officials, including Director of National Intelligence Avril Haynes, CIA Director William Burns, and National Security Agency Director Paul Nakasone, agreed at the hearing that TikTok poses a threat to US national security.

Nakasone on Tuesday raised concerns during his Senate testimony about TikTok’s data collection and potential to facilitate large-scale operations.
