Macron made the announcement today, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, at a ceremony honoring French feminist and lawyer Gisele Alimi, who died in 2020 at the age of 93. Alimi, who was born in Tunisia, has passionately defended women’s right to have an abortion.
“I hope that the strength of this message will help us to amend our Constitution and enshrine in it the freedom of women to have an abortion (…) so that nothing interferes or cancels what will be irreversible,” the French President added. .
