The police did not allow the crowd to march through the city center after local authorities issued a statement that they would not allow marches, demonstrations. Local metro stations have been closed since noon.

The march was organized just over two months before the crucial Turkish elections and just over a month after the devastating earthquakes in southern Turkey that killed more than 52,000 people.
