The 15-year-old boy from Mississippi is going to law school this year and could become one of the youngest people in the world to earn a Juris Doctor degree.
James “Jimmy” Chilimigras passed his law school entrance exam last year and scored 174, the highest score in Alabama, according to news station WLOX.
Jimmy, who holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in accounting from the nonprofit Governors Western University, told WLOX he’s now trying to decide which law school to attend.
Law school in the United States typically takes three years to complete. If Jimmy graduates within that time frame, he will be one of the youngest law graduates in the world, according to old.org.
According to the website, the youngest law school graduate in the world is Stephen Backus of Florida, who graduated from the University of Miami at the age of 16 in 1986.
Of course, some of the old.org list did not end up as lawyers, as one went on to become a journalist and another a professor of neuroscience.
Jimmy Chilimigrass’s parents told WLOX they realized early on that their son was very smart, as he was speaking full long sentences by the age of two, and at 12 he received his high school diploma.
“We always knew he was smart, but I don’t think we expected him to succeed so quickly,” his mother said.
However, according to his father John, things were not easy for James. The young man struggled with reading comprehension despite his great interest in reading.
“We had to resort to outside help to help him read correctly,” his father said.
