The Russian Secret Service (FSB) said it prevented a Ukrainian-made bomb from exploding in the car of Russian nationalist Konstantin Malofeev. oligarchknown for his support war her Moscow against Ukrainian.
The FSB claims it intervened to prevent the attack, which was supposed to be carried out by planting a remote-controlled improvised explosive device under the Russian military commander’s car.
The Russian network Zvezda TV showed an FSB video showing a man approaching a parked car and diving under it. Then the second video shows how the robot removes the object from under the car.
Reuters has not confirmed the authenticity of the video.
In a statement, the FSB accused the Ukrainian intelligence services of being involved in the assassination, which Russian intelligence said was orchestrated on their behalf by Denis Kapustin, a Russian far-right activist living in Ukraine. According to the FSB, Denis Kapustin has been charged with terrorism and trafficking in explosives.
Kapustin, also known as Denis Nikitin, is a former mixed martial artist. He sent a Reuters request for comment to his superiors in the Russian Volunteer Corps, the organization that claimed responsibility for the operation in the Bryansk region in southern Ukraine, in which he was also involved. His commander said he had no comment.
The FSB claims it thwarted yet another attempted sabotage attack by Kapustin on Russian oil and gas facilities in the Volgograd region last year.
Who is Konstantin Malofeev?
Malofeev, the target of an attack allegedly foiled by the FSB, is a supporter of Vladimir Putin. He owns a TV channel that promotes nationalist positions and is a strong supporter of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Malofeev said on Telegram that everything was fine with him and that no one was hurt during the attempt on his life, which “would not change his patriotic position.”
“I have no personal hatred even for people who want me dead,” he said. But, as many of our saints said, we must forgive our personal enemies and crush the enemies of the Fatherland. Well, we will fight against you until we win. And nothing will stop us.”
The FSB claims that the attack on Malofeev used methods of attacking Daria Duginaya, the daughter of Dugin, a well-known ideologue of nationalism, on a street outside Moscow last summer. Then Moscow blamed Kyiv. Ukraine denies any involvement in this attack.
