France prepares for tomorrow’s “mother of all strikes”

A strike will begin in France from tomorrow Tuesday, where unions have called on workers to demonstrate and strike against the government’s push for a reform of the country’s pension system – a reform that includes, among other things, raising France’s retirement age from 62. years, that is, today, at 64 years old.

The strike is expected to be particularly felt in the transport sector, both road and rail, as well as air. Most routes are expected to be closed, and truckers’ unions are threatening to close the country’s main arteries.

The strikes are also expected to be particularly felt in the energy, food and education sectors, as many schools and universities remain closed, in what the French media has called “the mother of all strikes.”

Police estimate that about 1 million French people will demonstrate on Tuesday, while unions expect the number of demonstrators to exceed 2 million. Trade unions have announced that rallies will be held in 260 French cities.

According to a poll conducted on behalf of the BFMTV channel, 64% of French people are in favor of a strike, while 57% are in favor of a permanent general strike.

Finally, with regard to the parliamentary process of approving the pension bill, now it is at its final stage, that is, it is being approved by the Senate.
