Police said at least 13 people died in Peru’s Ancas region, north of the capital Lima, when a bus collided with a motorcycle taxi.
The accident occurred on Sunday morning (local time) on the 380th kilometer of the northern Pan-American Highway in the province of Casma, about 370 kilometers north of Lima.
The bus, carrying more than fifty passengers, was traveling to the Peruvian capital from the Piura region (north).
According to police, after the collision, the bus flew off the roadway and caught fire. The victims burned to death inside the bus.
The injured were taken to the district hospital in Kasma. According to police, the motorcycle taxi driver is among the dead, and the bus driver has been detained.
Fatal traffic accidents are very common on Peruvian roads, mainly due to speeding, poor road conditions and lack of signs.
