Russia: one wounded and material damage from three downed missiles

At least one person was injured in the Belgorod region in southern Russia on Monday after Russian troops shot down three rockets, the governor of an area bordering Ukraine said.

Falling debris also knocked out some power lines near the city of Novy Oskol, but the full extent of the damage is not immediately known, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on the messaging app Telegram.

“One victim is known, a man with shrapnel wounds to his arm,” Gladkov said.

He did not say who he thought fired the rockets, but he has in the past blamed similar attacks on Ukrainian forces on the other side of the nearby border.

Belgorod borders the Kharkiv region of Ukraine and has been shelled repeatedly since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine a year ago.

Ukraine almost never publicly takes responsibility for terrorist attacks inside Russia and on Russian-controlled territory in Ukraine.
