The Spanish police detained the members of a criminal group that ransacked the houses of refugees from Ukraine and stole things worth more than a million euros.

“The ten suspects specialized in such victims as they usually brought all their savings and valuables with them,” Spanish police said in a statement.

Thieves allegedly broke into seven houses of Ukrainian refugees in the provinces of Alicante and Murcia, on the Spanish coast of the Mediterranean Sea.

Police said they recovered 1.25 million euros worth of stolen items and cash, including a stamp collection worth about half a million euros, jewelry and computers.

Ten thieves are suspected of using tracking devices installed on the victims’ cars to study their daily routines and find out when they are not at home.

The police reported that seven Ukrainians and three Russians were detained during the investigation and do not rule out that there are other victims of the gang.

Spain has accepted 160,000 Ukrainian refugees who received temporary protection after fleeing the war-torn country.
