OUR WHERE today he called on all countries to share with him whatever information they have about his origins COVID-19following claims this week by the FBI and the US Department of Energy that the pandemic was caused by a lab leak.
In recent days, the question of its origin has again become relevant. corona virus SARS-CoV-2 which causes Covid-19.
“If a country has information about the origin of a pandemic, it is vital to share it with WHO and the international scientific community,” WHO Secretary-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a regular press briefing. The point is not to “point the culprits” but “to expand our knowledge of how this pandemic started so that we can anticipate future outbreaks and pandemics, be prepared and respond accordingly,” he insisted.
FBI chief Christopher Wray this week calculated that it was “highly likely” that the pandemic was caused by a “leak” from a lab in the Chinese city of Wuhan. A similar assumption was made two days earlier by the US Secretary of Energy.
Asked specifically about this issue, Maria Van Kerkova, who is in charge of the WHO response to the pandemic, explained that the Organization has requested information from senior officials of the US Delegation to the UN in Geneva. “We sent questions (…) to get information about the recent Department of Energy report, as well as other reports from various US agencies. At present, we do not have access to either these reports or the data that made them possible,” he said.
The scientific community considers it essential to know the origin of the virus in order to better fight a future pandemic.
