Prosecutors said four doctors were arrested in Guatemala today on charges of organ trafficking after they removed a patient’s kidney without his consent.
Those arrested were “involved in the illegal removal of a kidney from a patient who was given a different diagnosis in order to justify the operation,” prosecutor spokesman Moises Ortiz said.
The victim reported his incident in May 2022.
Two doctors were arrested in the capital, and two other colleagues – in its suburbs. They are expected to appear in court today.
What happened to the victim’s kidney is still unknown. Authorities conducted a search, seized evidence and took statements as part of the investigation.
