Chancellor of Germany Olaf Soltz left tonight for United States where tomorrow Friday he will meet with the American President Joe Biden in the White House as talks are expected to focus on supporting Ukraine in the face of the ongoing Russian invasion.

Surprisingly, as the German News Agency (dpa) points out, no joint press conference planned after the meeting of the two leadersand Chancellor Soltz is accompanied not by journalists from Berlin (as is customary on such trips), but also by businessmen.

Regarding the cooperation between the two governments, Chancellor Soltz noted that there is a frequent exchange of views. But phone calls and teleconferences are not always enough, he stressed, justifying the two leaders’ decision to meet face-to-face. “This is necessary in the context of the global crisis, when many things have become very difficult,” he said before leaving.

The program of Scholz’s visit to the United States only includes a meeting with President Biden and an interview that he will give to CNN correspondent Farid Zakaria.

This is the second time that German Chancellor Scholz has entered the White House since he began his term almost 15 months ago. The previous one was at the beginning of February last year with a dominant Ukrainian theme. In those days, tens of thousands of Russian soldiers were deployed on the border with Ukraine, and two weeks later the war began.
