On Thursday, Ukraine ordered vulnerable people to evacuate the city of Kupyansk, located on the northeastern front, after the Russian army announced last week that it had captured the city in the Kharkiv region, AFP and News.ro reported.
“In the Kupyan direction, as a result of the offensive actions of the units of the “West” group, the village of Hryanivikka of the Kharkiv region was completely liberated,” the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
This settlement is located approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Kupyansk, the main city of this district of the Kharkiv region, conquered by the Russians in the first days of the invasion of Ukraine a year ago.
Therefore, in September, after a lightning counteroffensive, the Ukrainians recaptured the city of Kupyansk, which had almost 30,000 inhabitants before the war.
The troops of Moscow, supplemented by hundreds of thousands of reservists mobilized in Russia, resumed the offensive in this direction within a few days.
