The leader of Wagner’s Russian mercenaries released a video on Thursday showing his fighters in Bakhmut, the small Ukrainian town that Wagner has been fighting to take over for months, Reuters reported.
Wagner’s troops led the Russian assault on Bakhmut, and in recent months they have made small but steady gains on the city’s outskirts, jeopardizing Ukrainian supply lines.
In a Telegram post, the press service of Evgeny Prigozhin, the founder of Wagner, reports that “the guys are messing around, shooting amateur videos. This morning it was brought from Bakhmut, mainly from the center of the city.

Reuters geolocated the image to the east of Bakhmut, about 2 kilometers from the city center. The news agency also says it was unable to independently verify the date of the shooting.
The clip shows people in uniform raising Wagner’s flag atop a high-rise building. One of the men is dancing and holding a guitar, a reference to the unofficial nickname of Wagner’s fighters, “the musicians.”
Ukraine’s military said Thursday morning that its soldiers were holding their positions in Bakhmut but were under constant fire from Russian forces as they sought their first major victory in more than six months.
