
Russian forces are fighting a Ukrainian sabotage group in the border region of Bryansk after the group took hostages in a shop, Russian news agency Reuters reported on Thursday, adding that it could not be verified. “A group of Ukrainian saboteurs infiltrated two villages and took local hostages in one of them. “Rosgvardiya fighters engaged in a battle with militants,” TASS reported with reference to an anonymous source in the Russian special services.
- UPDATE 11:51 AM The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia said that, together with the forces of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, “it is taking measures to destroy armed Ukrainian nationalists who have violated the state border in the Klimovsk district of the Bryansk region.”
With reference to local emergency services, RIA reported that several people were taken hostage in a shop in the village of Lyubechane, less than a kilometer from the Russian border with Ukraine.
Earlier, a Russian regional official said that a Ukrainian “sabotage group” shot dead one person after crossing into Russia from Ukraine.
“Today, a Ukrainian subversive and reconnaissance group broke into the Klimiv district, into the village of Lyubechane. Saboteurs fired at a moving car. As a result of the shelling, one resident died, a ten-year-old child was injured,” Bryansk Oblast Governor Oleksandr Bogomaz wrote on his Telegram channel.
He added that the Ukrainian Armed Forces also struck from drones and shelled other areas near the border.
