Two devastating earthquakes that hit southeast Turkey earlier this month caused $34.2 billion in property damage, equivalent to about 4% of Turkey’s GDP in 2021, according to a World Bank preliminary estimate.
However, according to the same estimate, the total cost of reconstruction for the country could be twice as much.
