
OUR Russia today welcomed China’s proposals for his permission conflict in Ukraine and stated that he was open to achieving the goals of the so-called “special military operation” through political and diplomatic means.
China asks a general ceasefire under a 12-point plan in connection with the war that began a year ago, when Russia sent tens of thousands of troops to Ukraine.
“We appreciate the sincere desire of our Chinese friends to help resolve the conflict in Ukraine peacefully (…) We share the point of view of Beijing,” said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
“About the crisis in Ukraine“Russia is open to achieving the goals of a special military operation by political and diplomatic means,” Zakharova said.
However, this would also mean recognitionnew territorial reality» in Ukraine, she said Zakharovareferring to Russia’s unilateral annexation of four Ukrainian regions – Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia, as well as Crimea.
Ukraine has rejected China’s proposals unless they include the withdrawal of Russian troops from the 1991 border when the Soviet Union collapsed, though Kyiv has also said it is open to discussing parts of a Chinese peace plan.
Kyiv’s allies have also reacted coldly to the Chinese proposals, with NATO saying Beijing lacks credibility as an interlocutor because of its close ties to Russia.
