
A student stabbed and killed a teacher at a Catholic high school in the city of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, near Bordeaux in the southwest. France.
Police rushed to the scene and arrested a 16-year-old student who, according to local media, said he “heard voices ordering him to attack a teacher.”
The attack on a Spanish teacher, who is about 50 years old, was committed on Wednesday morning.
According to the French newspaper Sud Ouest, the attacker entered the classroom during the lesson and attacked the teacher. The rest of the students fled.
“I think about my family, colleagues and students. I will get to work immediately,” said French Education Minister Pape Diagé.
Local media reports that the student may have had mental health issues.
There is currently no indication that the incident is terrorism related.
On September 13, 2022, a 15-year-old student stabbed a high school teacher in Caen in Normandy in the neck. A few days later, the 63-year-old professor was released from the hospital, and the perpetrator of the attack, who is accused of attempted murder, is under medical observation.
