
President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan pledged to bring to justice those responsible for most 42,000 people died in the devastating earthquake that struck the south of the country on 6 February.
“Our duty is to bring to justice those who committed the offense and hold them accountable,” Erdogan said in the southern province of Osmaniye.
The Turkish government is facing harsh criticism for delaying response to deadly earthquakes and urban planning policies.as thousands of apartment buildings collapsed, victims were trapped under rubble.
Yesterday, the Turkish President announced that 200,000 apartment buildings will be built on a solid basis and based on the best practices of eleven provinces affected by the devastating earthquake.
According to the latest count released today by the Turkish emergency agency AFAD, the death toll from earthquakes in Turkey is 42,310.
