It would be better for all his countries NATO If she Sweden And Finland join the alliance together, not separately, Finnish Defense Minister Mikko Savola said today.
“It is better for Finland, Sweden and NATO that we both become members as soon as possible,” Savola said ahead of a meeting in Brussels with his NATO and Swedish counterparts.
“This is better for planning, we are working very closely with Sweden, which is also our closest partner,” he stressed.
The two countries’ requests to join NATO must be ratified by all members of the Alliance, but so far Turkey and Hungary have refused to give the go-ahead.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hinted last month that Turkey could agree to Finland’s membership ahead of Sweden amid tensions between Ankara and Stockholm.
