According to Radio Free Asia, in recent days, the North Korean authorities have forced all girls and women bearing this name to change it.

The agency cited two unnamed sources – one in North Pyongyang and another in South Pyongyang – who said local governments in the two cities had ordered the women to change their birth certificates.

“Yesterday, the Ministry of Security in Jeonju City called a woman named Yoo Ae to the Resident Registration Office to change their name,” one resident said in an RFA report on Friday.

Kim Yoo Ae will be the heir?

The resident pointed out that a 12-year-old girl from his area, bearing that name, had to come with her parents to the Ministry of Security to change her birth certificate.

Kim Yoo Ae, believed to be 10 years old, is the only one of Kim’s three children who appeared in public with her father when he inspected an ICBM test launch in November. His other two children never appeared in public.

Kim’s decision to appear alongside her daughter has led to speculation that Kim Yoo Ae could be her father’s successor in the future.

It is also noted that Kim Jong-un has banned North Korean citizens from bearing his name since 2014, forcing them to change their birth certificates.
