A teenager in Kazakhstan wearing a threatening plastic mask wounded three classmates with an ax at a school in the northern city of Petropavlovsk. Kazakhstana police spokesman said.

Police have detained a student whose name has not been released.

According to police, two schoolchildren were taken to the hospital, their condition is stable, and the third was released after first aid.

The teenager “ran down the hallway brandishing an ax and attacking students,” writes the local news site Petropavlovsk Novosti, citing eyewitnesses.

“Aim for the boy’s heart. The boy put his hands forward to protect himself,” another student said.
