Jens Stoltenberg: NATO increases stockpiles of ammunition with an eye on Ukraine

According to Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, NATO plans to increase its stockpiles of ammunition, which are being depleted due to the war in Ukraine.

“The war in Ukraine consumes a huge amount of ammunition. This puts pressure on our defense industry. Therefore, we need to increase production and invest in our production capacity,” Stoltenberg said, confirming that NATO is supporting Ukraine for as long as necessary.

As for the events on the ground, he said that almost a year after the start of the war, Moscow had already begun an escalation of the offensive.

“We see absolutely no signs that President Putin is seeking peace (…). We see that Putin and Russia still want to control Ukraine,” he said.

“We see them sending more troops, more weapons, more capabilities,” he added.

As noted by Reuters, Russia is believed to be planning a major new offensive, with Ukraine saying it needs fighter jets and long-range missiles to counter it and regain lost territories.
