The objects shot down over Alaska and Canada in recent days had nothing to do with the Chinese spy balloon shot down off the coast of South Carolina and were much smaller, a White House National Security Council spokesman said today.
“These objects did not look very similar and were much smaller than the People’s Republic of China balloon and we will not definitively describe them until we can recover the wreckage – which we are currently working on,” the spokesman said.
The announcement was made in response to questions about Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer’s comment that U.S. officials consider unmanned objects to be balloons.
Earlier, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Democrat of New York, told ABC This Week that President Joe Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan briefed him on Saturday night about the incident hours earlier. An object the size of a small car fell over Alaska on Friday, according to the White House.
Asked if the two recent objects were balloons, Schumer said: “They think so, but much smaller than the first.”
