US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken today he contacted his Turkish colleague Mevlut Cavusoglufor the second time in four days to discuss how Washington can help Turkey and Syria after the devastating earthquakes.

“First of all, it was an attempt to ask our Turkish allies what they want from the United States,” said State Department spokesman Ned Price. He added that soon the US will be able to say more about the assistance it will provide to Turkey.

According to Price, Cavusoglu he detailed Turkey’s needs, and Washington “will do its best to meet the needs indicated by the Turks.”

The spokesman also said US helicopters are helping rescuers reach hard-to-reach areas. He recalled that the United States sent a disaster response team of 200 people. It is also planned to send generators, medicines, tents for the homeless, water and water purification systems.

Price also said the US will continue to demand unhindered humanitarian access to Syria and called on the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to immediately allow humanitarian aid to pass through the border crossings.
