President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky today expressed confidence that his country will become a member of the European Union after it emerges victorious from the war with Russia.
“We are approaching the European Union. Ukraine will become a member of the European Union,” he said, speaking to the European Parliament.
Ukraine is a candidate for EU membership. since June last year, but the integration process has been going on for many years.
Zelenskiy clarified that Kyiv and its European partners are defending themselves against what he called a historic attack from Russia. “Europe, we are defending ourselves against the biggest anti-European force in the modern world,” he said. “We, Ukrainians, are on the battlefield with you.”
Zelensky thanked the EU member states. who sent military and humanitarian aid.
“Thanks to everyone who helps Ukraine with the necessary: weapons and ammunition, energy equipment and fuel, thousands of things, without which we could not have succeeded in the midst of an all-out war,” he said.
