Soltz: “Putin will not achieve his goals” – Toward new sanctions from the EU

“THAT Putin will not achieve its goals,” said Chancellor Olaf Solz and announced a new sanctions her European Econnection against Russia.

The chancellor defended his decisions on the supply of weapons to Ukraine and warned of the possibility of holding a “tender competition” for defense assets owned by allies in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He also reiterated that NATO under no circumstances should it come into direct conflict with Russia.

“The EU will support Ukraine as long as necessary. Putin will not achieve his goals, neither on the battlefield, nor through a dictated peace,” O. Solts emphasized, speaking in the federal parliament on the eve of the Council of Europe meeting.

“As the EU, on the anniversary of the start of the war, we will once again tighten sanctions against Russia,” the chancellor continued, indirectly responding to criticism at home and abroad for indecision and delays in sending military equipment to Ukraine, he recalled that Germany is one of the main economic supporters of Kiev, “but also far ahead in the supply of weapons and ammunition.”

What undermines our cohesion, he noted, is “public bidding for armaments: tanks, submarines, fighter jets – who wants more?” its ruling partners, the Greens and Liberals (FDP), criticized “domestic political statements and criticism of partners and allies in the public sphere”.

“Disagreements and speculations about conflicting interests are beneficial only to Vladimir Putin and his propaganda,” O. Solts said and repeated, on the one hand, that issues of arms supplies to Ukraine are resolved in agreement with the allies, and on the other hand, that NATO under no circumstances should not enter into a direct confrontation with Russia.

The German Chancellor from the Bundestag hall assured Ukraine of the unbreakable solidarity of Germany and Europe. “Ukraine is part of Europe, its future is in the EU. and this promise is valid,” he stressed and specified that at the upcoming European Council we will compare our positions and outline our further course. He noted that a direct exchange of views with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would be of particular importance.
