French President Emmanuel Macron told his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, who is visiting Paris, that France is “determined” to lead Ukraine to victory in the war against Russia, CNN reports.
“We support Ukraine, we are determined to lead it to victory,” Macron said. “Ukraine can count on the victory of France and its allies in the war, Russia is not obliged and will not win the war,” said the French leader.
Macron told Zelensky that France would continue to provide military support to Ukraine and that Paris would “adjust and readjust” to Kyiv’s needs.
“Ukraine can count on us to build peace,” said the French leader, speaking alongside Zelenskyi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Paris.
After arriving in Paris on Wednesday, Zelensky said he was “grateful for the spontaneous idea to meet and talk” at a joint press conference with Macron and Scholz.
“France and Germany have the potential to change the game,” Zelenskyy said in his welcome speech, adding that “the sooner Ukraine can get long-range weapons and modern aircraft, the stronger our coalitions will be.”
Scholz said that Germany will continue to provide military aid to Ukraine “as long as it needs it.”
“Russia should not win this war,” Scholz also said.
He said Zelensky’s presence at the EU summit in Brussels, Belgium, on Thursday was a “powerful signal” of solidarity.
