
Western partners will be able to supply first Leopard 2 tanks in Ukraine over the next 2-3 months, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said today from the Polish capital.
“We could deliver at least one tank in the first four months of this year — maybe three months — and then we have to move as quickly as possible,” Pistorius said, adding that he meant 31 tanks.
Almost a year after the start of the Russian invasion of UkrainePoland and Germany share the need to support Kyiv, the German minister said, adding that the two countries agreed to meet next week with partners who could also supply Leopard 2 tanks.
Responding to repeated calls from Kyiv and increasing pressure from some Western allies, Berlin announced last month that it would supply state-of-the-art Leopard 2 tanks from German army stocks.
It will also raise funds with Denmark and the Netherlands to upgrade at least 100 old Leopard 1 tanks destined for the war. Ukraine.
